Join Our Team!

Welcome to the Journal of Student-Run Clinics (JSRC)! We are actively seeking members to add to our incredible team of interprofessional students, including undergraduate students interested in research/health professions, health professional students, and more. Refer below for all available positions and their respective roles and responsibilities. All roles are on a volunteer basis. For all positions: 

  •  Trainees in any healthcare profession (e.g., medical school, social work, nursing, etc.) or research/statistics-oriented disciplines (e.g., public health, epidemiology, neuroscience, etc.) are welcome. 
  •  No editing, publication, or reviewing experience necessary. 
  •  Training and mentorship will be provided. We will help you become familiar with the scientific publishing process. 

Student/Peer Reviewers

  • Skills
    • Able to complete tasks in a timely manner.
    • Enthusiasm for learning and honing peer review skills.
  • Responsibilities
    • Must complete a training module and reviewer contract form.
    • Provide constructive feedback to authors and editors for submitted manuscripts.
  • Time
    • ~2-3 hours per article on your own time 
    • Flexible, per article commitment.

Faculty Reviewers

Editorial Board Positions:

Assistant Editor 

  • Skills
    • Research and/or scientific writing experience strongly preferred.
    • Must be detail-oriented, a proficient writer, and able to complete tasks in a timely manner. 
  • Responsibilities
    • Handles correspondence with authors of assigned articles (handling on average 3 articles). 
    • Assigns and manages reviewers for articles.
    • Collaborates with editors-in-chief to make a publication recommendation based on personal assessment and reviewer comments. 
    • Copy edit at least 1 article.
    • Serve on the editorial board for at least 1 year.
  • Time: ~2 hours a week on your own time plus 1 monthly evening online meeting. 
  • How to apply:

Technical Editor

  • Skills
    • Must be detail-oriented, a proficient writer, and able to complete tasks in a timely manner.
    • Must have strong grammar skills.
  • Responsibilities
    • Make minor recommendations for writing clarity and proofread submissions before publication.
    • Format submissions for publication and public release on our website.
    • Serve on the editorial board for at least 1 year.
  • Time
    • ~2-5 hours per article on your own time plus 1 monthly evening online meeting.
    • Flexible, per article commitment.

Application Materials

Please be prepared to provide the following materials in your application: 

  • CV
  • Letter of interest
    • Include any relevant interest or experience, your current trainee status and affiliation, and a description of your interest in the role(s) to which you are applying.
    • Recommended length: 2-3 paragraphs 
  • Writing sample (optional)
    • Strongly recommended if applying as technical editor.
    • Academic writing sample (for which you were the primary person doing the writing, if there are multiple authors). Papers written for coursework are acceptable submissions.
